What Makes A Good Shooting Coat?

A good men's shooting coat is an investment where a reliable option is essential, which you can enjoy for years to come. You also need to understand what it is you are requiring the coat for. Will you be beating or stalking, rough shooting, or will you be spending time on the peg or are you looking for a flexible allrounder which won’t look out of place in the field or at the rugby ground?

A good men's shooting coat will need to be waterproof & durable, giving you heavy rain protection for all manner of outdoor pursuits. A suitable shooting coat will have added features that are useful to shooters such as cartridge pockets, windbreaker cuffs and an action pleat.

Finally a shooting coat has to be enjoyable to wear be being comfortable. Shoots aren't done & dusted in 30 minutes so it is paramount a shooting coat is comforting along with being breathable too.

All Alan Paine men's shooting coats are waterproof and made with innovative fabrics to keep you warm & dry despite any efforts from the British countryside. Despite some of our jackets being lightweight, they are also waterproof whilst being stylish for leisure pursuits too.

Our field coats also come with a whole host of features such as an action back to aid movement, reinforced shoulders, secure internal pockets, map pockets, waterproof hoods, an adjustable waist and windbreaker cuffs. See product features for specific information.

What To Wear With A Men's Shooting Jacket

Our men's shooting jackets are designed specifically for cold & wet days in the field hence being most suitable with a full shooting outfit. Wear your shooting jacket with a matching pair of shooting breeks, a shooting gilet, shirt and cap for the full look. Also, ensure you have the correct accessories including shooting socks and a tie, especially for days when correct shooting etiquette is needed.

Our men's shooting jackets can be worn casually for a range of country pursuits or even at the rugby with a pair of jeans and men's lambswool jumper for warmth.

Finding The Perfect Fitting Men's Shooting Coat

When choosing a men's shooting coat or shooting jacket, make sure it is roomy enough to allow freedom of movement of the upper body and arms.  This will also enable you to wear additional layers underneath if the weather demands.

All our men’s shooting coats or jackets are designed with either of these two fits:

1. Shooting Fit - Building into shooting coat 10" to 11" from actual chest size to allow for movement & layering.

2. Regular Fit - Building into men's shooting jacket & coat 5" to 6" from actual chest size to allow for layering.

For example, if you were a 42" chest and bought a size 42" Combrook men's shooting coat (shooting fit), the actual garment chest would measure 52" to accommodate layering and movement. You will find the type of garment fit at the end of the product name.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns with regards to any of the men's shooting jackets that you see for sale, whether it is regard to material, size or fit - we'll be more than happy to help.
