Cricket Jumpers

Over 100 Years Creating Cricket Jumpers

Here at Alan Paine, we've been designing iconic cricket jumpers for over 100 years and take every care to bring you the highest quality clothing that can be worn year after year.

The enduring cotton cable knit was more or less unheard of before our founder, William Paine, evolved it into a cricket jumper in the early twenties following the cultural surge in popularity towards classic British sports.

The timeless cricket jumper is now a staple of every collection. Whilst it retains its traditional cable structure, it's enhanced by contemporary colours and trims and continues to be one of our most popular garments.

Whether you choose to channel your inner athlete or embrace classic preppy style, the cricket jumper will be a main part of our collection of men's wool jumpers for a long, long time to come.

Features Of An Alan Paine Cricket Jumper

Our machine washable men's cricket jumpers (and slipovers) are knitted in pure cotton with a classic vee neck, ribbed cuffs, ribbed hem and featuring a traditional cable design.

A contrast trim is added to the vee, cuffs and welt.  Every jumper is fully fashioned, knitted to shape on the knitting machine, and each stitch is linked by hand for the smoothest join possible.

New for the season comes our Padworth cable knit cricket cardigan which is designed with merino wool and comes in a 6 button design.

Styling A Men's Cricket Jumper

Whether you're heading out for sport, a formal event or going casual, a versatile cricket sweater is a go-to layering piece you can rely on.

This vee neck marvel is a natural partner for chinos. Wear over a collared shirt for instant seasonal style and add a matching tie when the occasion demands.

Keeping it casual? Pair your cricket sweater (or cricket slipover on warmer days) with your favourite shorts and a polo shirt  - guaranteed to turn heads for all the right reasons at a cocktail party or evening stroll on the beach.

A cable knit cricket sweater makes for an iconic layering piece as the seasons change. When sweater weather comes around, pop over a collared shirt, underneath a well-fitting tweed blazer or jacket.

What Occasions Are Cricket Jumpers Suitable For?

A cricket jumper is one of the most versatile garments you can own that can be worn for a plethora of occasions. During warmer days in the city a cricket jumper can come in handy and be layered over a shirt or country polo shirt as you head into the evening. A cricket jumper looks more stylish than a jacket for any day in the city.

Whilst adventuring with the family at a park or grounds a cricket jumper always comes in handy as you sit for a picnic in the wind. Alternatively wear whilst meeting friends at a country pub or for lunch with a pair of jeans. A cricket jumper won't look too smart if styled accordingly.

For days in the office, a cricket jumper is suitable over a shirt & tie and will stand out from the row or blazers or full suits. Finally cricket jumpers & sport go hand in hand being popular to wear whilst watching the cricket or tennis.

Find The Best Fitting Men's Cricket Jumper

To make our fitting as easy as possible, we've made all of our cricket jumpers with a regular fit. This is an up to date 'modern' fit which is slightly tapered across the waist and chest, whilst still retaining room for freedom of movement.

Our sizes range from a UK 38 up to a UK 50. For specific measurements or international size conversions do see the full size guide on each individual product page.
